Exploring students\' use of twitch.tv as a platform for extensive listening activities and its impact on their listening skills: a study of experiences / Nashiichuddin Wildan Amanullah
Abstrak
This study investigated students rsquo experience in using Twitch.tv in extensive listening activities and the impacts on their listening skills. It employed survey research design. There were fifty-eight students who participated in this research who had taken intermediate listening classes. The data was collected using online questionnaire and semi-structured interview. The data from the questionnaire were calculated in the form of percentage distribution followed by the answers from the interview and described in narrative forms. Sixty percent of students reported that Twitch.tv increased their motivation to learn English (30% strongly agree 28% agree) showing positive responses toward its use in extensive listening activities. The findings indicate that students perceive Twitch.tv as an effective tool for improving listening skills with 72% (38% strongly agree 34% agree) affirming its effectiveness although engagement levels in using Twitch.tv for language learning vary among students. They often use Twitch.tv for pleasure and enjoyment rather than systematic language learning. Twitch.tv not only entertains students but also motivates them to learn English.
