The use of impoliteness strategies and functions of gibran rakabuming raka’s spoken language style in the 2024 indonesian vice presidential candidate debates / Deshinta Sekar Anjani
Abstrak
The general election for president and vice presidential candidates in Indonesia in 2024 interests Indonesia. One of the vice presidential candidates is Gibran Rakabuming Raka (GRR) rsquo s speaking style which contains elements of Impoliteness and the impoliteness theory of Culpeper (1996) The strategies and functions with descriptive qualitative methods. This research aims to avoid using Impoliteness and use a good sentence when making statements. Also social class and age are factors that contribute to the occurrence of Impoliteness. The result is that there are 52 utterances in the total data. The strategy that appears frequently is Positive Impoliteness (S1) which GRR often uses during the debate is 19 utterances (36%) followed by Bald On Record (S2) 8 utterances (15%) Negative Impoliteness with six utterances (11%) sarcasm (S4) 5 utterances (10%) and withhold Impoliteness appearing as much as 1 utterances (2%) and 13 utterances (26%) of the total combined utterances. Also the type of function of Impoliteness that appears most often is the coercive function with 25 utterances (48%) followe d by the affective function 11 utterances (21%) and the entertainment function not appearing at all in the utterances (0%) and 10 utterances (19%) which do not contain any function types are 6 utterances (12%). The social aspect contains social status will determine a person s speaking style towards other people either with the aim of demeaning intimidating or belittling..
