Language use by men and women in the review section in shopee / Maslikhatul Fitria
Abstrak
Through this study the researcher wants to explore the language used by male and female reviewers in the review section in Shopee. By using the qualitative method the researcher collected the data from the review section of two different stores that sell the same product and classified those reviews based on the reviewer s gender. The researcher noticed that there were differences in the language used by male and female reviewers in writing reviews. The researcher also did a survey through Google form to see which language use is more influential between male and female reviewers and found that the language used by male reviewers gets more attention from the respondents. The language that is used by male reviewers is more explicit and shorter while female reviewers tend to use elaborate sentences with indirect expression. The survey showed that most respondents choose reviews by male reviewers because they think that male reviewers leave more positive comments about the product than female reviewers who leave more critiques of the products in their reviews.
