Abstrak
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins is one of the famous trilogy novels and has gained a lot of attention ever since its release. This study analyses how President Snow is using his power to oppress those who are powerless and because of this oppression Gale Hawthorne is trying to resist President Snow rsquo s oppression. President Snow constantly oppresses people to realize his interests. Meanwhile Gale Hawthorne who belongs to the proletariat attempts to challenge the oppression by joining the rebellion. This study uses Marxist literary criticism especially focussing on ideological state apparatuses and repressive state apparatuses by Althusser to show what kind of oppression President Snow uses to realize his ideology in the country which causes Gale Hawthorne rsquo s resistance. The findings of this analysis are that President Snow utilises each aspect of the country including institutions to enable the oppression that leads to Gale Hawthorne s resistance first the limitations and regulations cause the poor living situation of District 12 where Gale Hawthorne belongs. Second the Hunger Games are one of the forms of oppression and President Snow rsquo s control over the armed forces and media leave no other option for Gale Hawthorne but to fight. President Snow who comes from the ruling class uses his power as a leader to abuse and oppress the lower class and Gale Hawthorne who belongs to the lower class becomes a victim of this oppression trying to resist President Snow rsquo s oppression.
