The effects of the flouting of grice’s maxims in the dialogue of black mirror: the waldo moment / Pinta Alvionita
Abstrak
This research discusses the flouting of Grice rsquo s Maxims to the series from Black Mirror The Waldo Moment and its explanation on how the flouting works and its impact on the audience and the story of the episode. The researcher will focus on the floutings in the episode and explains how it classifies as a flouting of Grice rsquo s Maxims such as Maxim of Relation Maxim of Manner Maxim of Quality and Maxim of Quantity. The data set is taken from the narration in the episode of The Waldo Moment from Black Mirror series analyzed and classified each sample according to the type of the floutings. The reasons behind the floutings and their impact on the audience and the interlocutor are analyzed in this study. Using qualitative method this research attempts to help audience understand the flouting of Grice rsquo s Maxims is understood by analyzing it based on the types of the floutings and their potential effects on the audience. The floutings of Grice rsquo s Maxims is commited because the speaker or the interlocutor wants to change the topic of the conversation to make certain impression towards the audience or the speaker itself.
