Turn-taking mechanism in a gaslight-affected romantic relationship through netflix tv series dirty john s2 / Rizky Camelia Dewi

Abstrak
In a conversation when two or more people follow the interaction rules where the participant takes turns to talk is called turn-taking. This paper focuses on the turn-taking mechanism in a gaslight-affected romantic relationship showcasing unique findings in the turn-taking mechanism that applies. Gaslighting itself is a psychological manipulation using verbal abuse to make the victim doubt their understanding of reality which leads to emotional and mental instability. The data will be collected through the Netflix TV series Dirty John specifically season 2 using descriptive qualitative methods through the series rsquo transcript. The results of this study found the turn-taking mechanism used which are taking the floor holding the floor and yielding the floor. Other than that the data also shows the most frequently used mechanism and the function of each type of the turn-taking mechanism.
