Students’ perception of independent study program conducted in the department of english universitas negeri malang / Arrisa Ravana Utami

Abstrak
This research investigated students rsquo perception of the Independent Study Program at the Department of English Universitas Negeri Malang. A survey research design was applied to find out the student rsquo s perceptions through a questionnaire and an interview guide. It was a four-point Likert scale questionnaire with 17 statements to be responded by the participants. The population of this research was the second-semester students of the Department of English Universitas Negeri Malang cohort 2022. The questionnaire was administered to 110 students six of whom were further interviewed to get more explanations of their responses. The findings show that students rsquo perception of the Independent Study Programs is mostly positive. Based on the data students feel that the Independent Study Program was important. They were provided various learning materials from the lecturer and they were free to choose their learning sources. They claimed that the Independent Study Program helps them to improve their English especially their Reading comprehension.
