The effectiveness of using pictures to improve simple past tense understanding of the eighth grader in smpn 6 singosari / Puri Wardana
Abstrak
This study focuses on finding which is more effective between picture involvement and the one without in improving the simple past tense understanding of the eight graders of SMPN 6 Singosari. The aim is to find out which method is able to significantly give positive effects to the students rsquo comprehension. In this study pictures were used to present clear depiction of past contexts in students rsquo minds. Quantitative method with Quasi-experimental research design was used where the researcher decided one group to be the experimental group which was given pictures as the media and the other one as the control group without any picture involved. Each group consisted of 29 eighth graders. Data was collected by conducting a pretest and post-test in both groups to find out the differences in the learning outcomes of the two. The data was analyzed using independent sample t-test to acquire the significance value. The results showed that there was a significant difference in mean score between the experimental and control groups. The experimental class acquired higher mean score than the control one.
