Crossang-crossing: discovering the football register in Indonesian podcast / Gatra Kusuma Hidayat

Abstrak
This study investigates the linguistic register of the football podcast Offside Duo by using Biber and Conrad rsquo s register framework (2019) and analyzing the linguistic features that characterize the aspect of football. The study collected data from five selected program episodes using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results demonstrated the typical linguistic features are focused on the word formation process with the usage of Football terms in both English and Bahasa Indonesia mixed and compounded while clipping simplifies team and player names. Loanwords are taken from Spanish Italian and English. Reduplication indicates plurality and frequency. Acronyms denote positions teams and competitions. The research implies some significance such as simplifying communication knowledge exchanges and language development in Indonesian.
