Elementary school students\' perceptions towards the spelling bee game and their vocabulary mastery / Latifatul Khoirunnisa
Abstrak
One of the most important parts of learning English is vocabulary. The two types of vocabulary are productive and reseptive. Students can create sentences to communicate with others by using their vocabulary. The study is aimed to investigate studets rsquo perceptions towards the implementation of the Spelling Bee game for the mastery of productive and receptive vocabulary. It is important to know how are their perceptions because the English teacher could examine the teaching strategy. The researcher employed a survey design. The instrument of this research was a questionnaire. There were two variables and twelve items of indicators. The questionnaire has been validated by the expert it had been tried on. The questionnaire used a likert scale (1-4). There were 47 of six graders students who responded to the questionnaire. The collected data were then recapitulated and calculated to find the percentage of respondents who chose a particular option for a statement. The data collection found that 94.6% of students agree that the spelling bee game had a positive impact on their productive and receptive vocabulary despite the fact that 5.4% said they did not perceive a positive impact on their vocabulary mastery. Their vocabulary mastery receptive and productive as well as their desire and self-confidence in studying English are all impacted by the spelling game.
