Efl Students’ Attitude Toward the use of Duolingo Application in the Learning of English Vocabulary / Sarah Della Almira Nabilah
Abstrak
Digital tools nowadays have benefits for vocabulary learning. Duolingo application is one of the tools that the students rsquo can utilize through its application and website. The current study aims to examine the attitude of the EFL students on using Duolingo in English vocabulary learning. Also this study examines the positive experiences and challenges that the students have in using Duolingo for English vocabulary learning. This study employs convergent parallel research design with sixty students of the English Department in one of public university in East Java as the purposively involved participants. The quantitative data collected using close-ended questionnaire with 4 points Likert scale and the qualitative data collected using open-ended questions related to the students rsquo positive experiences and challenges. The result of the study showed that the students rsquo have a positive attitude on the use of Duolingo application mainly in the cognitive category (3.32). The students rsquo positive experiences shows that Duolingo application is an interesting and fun application for English vocabulary learning. The challenges show that the students face difficulties in terms of consistency and the grammatical rules understanding in the English vocabulary learning in Duolingo application. The results recommend that EFL teachers consider using the Duolingo application as a medium for the students rsquo English vocabulary learning.
