Abstrak
The results of previous studies were limited on the effectiveness and benefits of using both monolingual and bilingual dictionaries. Therefore in this study researcher investigated on the correlation between the students rsquo attitudes and frequency of using Monolingual English Dictionary (MED) toward EFL learners rsquo vocabulary mastery of the third semester English Language Education in Universitas Negeri Malang. The data were gathered using attitudes and frequency of using Monolingual English Dictionary questionnaire and a Vocabulary Level Test (VLT) and SPSS 25 were used for analysis. The result indicated a correlation between the frequency of MED use and the attitudes of the students on the vocabulary proficiency of EFL learners. The first finding (H1) X1 and Y variables indicated that the Pearson Correlation was 0.423 at the significance level of 0.05 indicated there was significantly positive moderate correlation (0.004 lt 0.05). The null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Through a score of 0.134 the second result (H2) X2 and Y variables indicated that there was a very low correlation between the frequency of using MED and vocabulary mastery. This correlation was not significant as the significance value of 0.385 war more than 0.05. Consequently there was a moderate and very low positive correlation between the three variables the more EFL learners use Monolingual English Dictionary the more proficient they are in vocabulary.
