Abstrak
Some previous studies revealed that the reading habits of university students were not satisfactory and in need of improvement. This encouraged the researchers to investigate the reading habits of the English Language Education (ELE) students after completing all the compulsory reading courses in the Department of English. The participants of this study were 63 ELE students of the 2022 cohort. This research employed a descriptive survey design. The data were collected by using an online questionnaire and the data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. The findings showed that the ELE students had good reading habits concerning their perception towards reading reading purposes technology used and time spent on reading. The ELE students had varied preference of reading materials but fiction was preferred the most. However two aspects required improvements i.e. reading practices and reading-related activities. Based on the findings further researches are suggested to identify how the ELE students rsquo reading habit changes focusing on before and after taking the compulsory reading courses and to identify the long-term effects of the compulsory reading courses on the reading habits.
