Exploring teacher\'s supportive behavior in teaching english vocabulary among 4th-grade efl learners / Yuvika Dwi Aprilia
Abstrak
This study explores the teacher rsquo s supportive behavior in teaching English vocabulary to young EFL learners in an Indonesian context. using Vygotsky rsquo s ZPD as the theoretical framework this study aims to find out the teacher rsquo s supportive strategies and the student rsquo s perception of the teacher rsquo s method of teaching English. A qualitative case study design was used with the data collected from classroom observations and focus group interviews. The participants consisted of one homeroom teacher and 27 4th-grade students. With the thematic analysis method the results show that the teacher employed a variety of teacher support strategies such as simplifying vocabulary modeling and demonstrating the words providing engaging activities and motivating students. The students also responded positively to this support expressing enjoyment during the lessons and showing notable progress. These findings highlight the importance of teacher supports for students to learn English vocabulary specifically in closing the gap between students rsquo current abilities and their potential development.
