Metaphor translation methods found in Percy Jackson dan Dewa Olympia: pencuri petir / Deanisharla Andrianti
Abstrak
Metaphors are known to be potential obstacles when translating literary work mostly due to differences in culture and language systems. Knowing metaphor translation methods becomes crucial as it helps translators to maintain the intended meaning from the source text (ST). In this study the researcher unveils a variety of methods to translate the selected metaphors found in Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan from English to Indonesian by conducting an online interview with the translator in order to learn undiscovered metaphor translation methods directly from the translator. It is found that most of the metaphors are translated literally but the translator also applies other ways to translate the metaphors such as by translating the meaning changing the sentence structure as well as substituting or deleting some words.
