Eksistensi kerajinan tikar mendong di era modern: studi kasus di Desa Ngembal Kecamatan Wajak Kabupaten Malang / Trya Fasifathul Ilma
Abstrak
The mendong mat craft in Ngembal Village is one of the cultural heritages that is still preserved despite facing challenges in the modern era. This research aims to examine the existence challenges and strategies for developing mendong mat crafts in the village. The findings show that even though market demand is decreasing and the number of mendong farmers is decreasing artisan groups continue to maintain this production as part of a tradition passed down from generation to generation. The main challenges faced include limited raw materials declining interest from the younger generation and difficulties in regenerating craftsmen. To overcome this problem several development strategies can be implemented such as product innovation to appeal to the modern market involving the younger generation in craft preservation and maintaining traditional methods in production to add authentic value. This research uses James Coleman s Rational Choice Theory to analyze how the main actors mendong plant suppliers craftsmen distributors and the younger generation make decisions based on their interests and resources.
