Analysis of the english language news coverage of Indonesia\'s 2024 presidential debates on the internet / Nadiya Handayani

Abstrak
Media and language form a unity that supports each other with the newspaper serving as the primary written medium for presenting national and international issues worldwide. In this modern era English plays a crucial role in media particularly online newspapers. This research aims to compare the amount of news coverage in Indonesian and several English news portals on the internet regarding the 2024 Indonesian presidential debate and to analyze how Southeast Asian countries perceive English-language coverage of the 2024 Indonesian presidential debate through their online news. This research employed descriptive qualitative methods to analyze the collected data. The researcher used Google as a tool to locate online newspapers related to the 2024 Indonesian presidential debate. The results of the research reveal that the comparison of news coverage related to the 2024 Indonesian presidential debate is 82% for Indonesian news coverage and 18% for English news coverage. Furthermore the researcher finds a lack of interest from Southeast Asian countries in writing news coverage in English related to the 2024 Indonesian presidential debate. This is evidenced by the lack of news coverage related to the 2024 Indonesian presidential debate written in English.
