Students\' perception of using mobile legends online game to improve their vocabulary knowledge / Ichwan Ali
Abstrak
This study investigates students rsquo perceptions of the Mobile Legends gaming experience in improve their vocabulary knowledge using a descriptive case study approach. Vocabulary mastery is one of the crucial things in language learning especially in English. One form of digital technology that is experiencing rapid development is the activity of playing online games. Online games seem to present an interesting interactive and fun environment for learning English that allows it to be a medium for increasing vocabulary effectively. One of the online games currently being played by students is Mobile Legends. Unlike previous studies that broadly examine online gaming and language learning this research focuses on the specific profile of students including their Mobile Legends playing experience and their English grades. Furthermore studies exploring the role of Mobile Legends in vocabulary acquisition remain scarce in the Indonesian context making this research a valuable addition to the field. Through screening and interviews with students that have experience playing Mobile Legends it was revealed that they have a positive perception that Mobile Legends can help them to improve their vocabulary knowledge. Even though Mobile Legends is found effective in the context of vocabulary learning there are still limitations like the lack of vocabulary exposure within this game. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of how online games can be utilized to enhance students English learning experiences. This study also has practical implications for educators suggesting that online games like Mobile Legends can be integrated as supplementary tools for vocabulary learning with additional instructional strategies to maximize their educational potential.
