Fandom and parasocial relationship: a study of stigma and society’s perspective on K-POP\'S world / Nabila Yanaira Rachman
Abstrak
This research aims to explore the relationship between social stigma and perceptions of K-Pop fans and how this stigma and perception influence views about the Korean music industry. Using qualitative descriptive methods this research identified five main stigmas associated with K-Pop fans excessive obsession perceptions of immaturity a tendency to prioritize foreign culture superficiality and extreme fanaticism. The research finds that these stigmas contribute to society rsquo s negative views of K-Pop fans reinforcing often unfair stereotypes. However it also uncovered positive perspectives such as admiration for fans rsquo creativity their sense of community and their role in fostering cultural understanding between nations. Additionally the research emphasizes the complexity of parasocial relationships between fans and idols which can have either a positive or negative impact on fans rsquo emotional and social well-being. The findings are anticipated to provide valuable insights aimed at mitigating negative stigmas and enhancing the public rsquo s perception of K-Pop fans and culture.
