Abstrak
Textbooks play a crucial role as learning material in helping students meet the English learning objectives outlined in the Emancipated curriculum. Consequently teachers must thus select textbooks with good content. Previous researchers only focused on the overall appearance of the textbook but not its content besides that publishers in this era mostly focus in commercials purpose than contents of the textbook itself. Therefore researchers conducted this research related to content analysis to make it easier for the users of the textbook to choose good textbooks that are in accordance with the Emancipated curriculum. The aims of the study is to analyze the content of an English textbook entitled ldquo English for Nusantara rdquo for seventh graders in Junior High School. Descriptive quantitative analysis focusing on content analysis was used in this study. The instrument is an evaluation checklist adapted from Cunningsworth (1995) Pillars of Pancasila Students Profile (P3) and Curriculum Standards and Education Assessment Agency (BSKAP) 2022. The result of the study shows that the English textbook entitled ldquo English for Nusantara rdquo has a good content based on the criteria used in the instrument. The final score of the evaluation checklist is 38 or 95% of the answer ldquo Yes rdquo in the evaluation checklist divided by the total number of criteria then multiplied by 100%. It indicates the textbook meets the feasibility standards of excellent textbook content based on the Emancipated curriculum by providing the suitable content with the pillars of P3 as the learning objective of the Emancipated Curriculum. However this study also found an unbalanced weight in the presentation of content that refers to the skills in the curriculum. Therefore the study suggests the teachers to use this textbook for learning and teaching English in grade VII but they must improvise so that the skills in the textbook complete and balanced enough to achieve perfect learning outcomes.
