The effect of the field trip method on seventh grade junior high school students’ critical thinking skills in learning ecosystems / Della Galih Puspitasari
Abstrak
Critical thinking skills are one of the 21st century competencies as a top priority for education. Field trip is a learning method that is carried out outside the classroom by visiting a certain place. This study aims to examine the effect of field trip learning method on critical thinking skills of seventh grade junior high school students on ecosystem material. This study used pre-experimental research with a one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this study amounted to 32 students selected by purposive sampling technique. The instruments used included essay questions critical thinking skills observation response questionnaire and reflection sheet. The data obtained were analyzed using paired sample t-test with the results showing a significant increase in students critical thinking skills after the application of the field trip method with p lt 0.001 and N-Gain of 0.71. Indicators of organizing strategies and tactics are most often observed during field trips. Students gave positive responses to field trip activities and could write down their learning experiences. Based on the results of the study it is concluded that the field trip method can improve students critical thinking skills on ecosystem material.
