Generation z students’ preferences for outdoor learning space design of Malang state university after damage / Eri Pujiana

Abstrak
Malang State University is a university in Malang City East Java with an average age of students at the S1/D4 level ranging from 18 to 25 years or born in the 2000-2006 range so the current age of students is in the generation Z category. Outdoor Learning Space is one of the outdoor space facilities at Malang State University which is used as an outdoor space for user activities such as students. Outdoor space is defined as a space or place for individuals to carry out activities that should be able to create a sense of comfort for someone while doing activities. However damage began to be seen and could be felt by users of the UM OLS facilities. Material damage to the UM OLS facilities can be found in the researcher s initial observations through visual observations such as damaged roofs made of membrane materials faded paint and so on. This study aims to find out students preferences for the design of the Outdoor Learning Space of Malang State University after the damage the research design began with initial observations of the damage in the OLS UM Primary data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires with the sorting method and the Likert scale method containing eleven indicators to 96 respondents then a quantitative descriptive analysis was carried out. The results of the study showed that eight indicators showed conformity with what respondents wanted in OLS UM both elements of outdoor gardening and outdoor buildings but there were several aspects that did not match the wishes of respondents namely in vegetation in the form of types of plants that respondents preferred namely plants that have flowers or trees with leaves and flowers are preferred with a percentage of agreeing 41.7% and strongly agreeing 40.6% in other vegetation sections namely the types of plants that respondents preferred based on their dimensions in the form of shade trees with a percentage of respondents choosing to agree 26% and strongly agreeing 57.4%. The outdoor building section in the form of paint color where respondents agreed 38.5% and strongly agreed 24% of outdoor buildings painted using color but in OLS UM only have a few natural colors that dominate such as black and gray Design engineering recommendations for the Outdoor Learning Space of Malang State University for outdoor garden elements namely planting vegetation/plants (Softscape) that vary in color with types of shade trees such as tabebuya trees and bungur trees. Meanwhile for the elements of outdoor buildings namely the use of paint colors on outdoor buildings (OLS UM) can use colored finishing types such as red yellow and orange which can evoke an enthusiastic atmosphere and increase cognitive retention and memory.
