ABSTRACT Misconception is a misunderstanding when connecting new knowledge with the understanding that students already have. The cause of misconception is the difference in perception between scientific concepts and concepts formed in students minds. Students find it difficult to understand the correct concept because they already have a wrong understanding. If the error is not found and corrected the learning process and learning outcomes of students can be disrupted. In addition male and female students may have different types and levels of misunderstanding. This study aims to identify differences in the level of misconceptions between male and female students. The researcher found differences in misconceptions in male and female students so an analysis was carried out using the CRI test to overcome this problem. The researcher used a quantitative approach in conducting this study. The population in this study were MTsN students while the samples used were 50 male students and 50 female students. Based on the results obtained by the researcher after processing the data there were misconceptions in male and female students. In male students the percentage of misconceptions is 11.60% and in female students the percentage of misconceptions is 8.60%. The researcher s suggestion for further research is expected to expand or increase schools or also by comparing between levels of education such as MTsN and MA.
