Abstrak
This study investigates the use of youth language over the decades in Indonesian contexts. It specifically focused on how English and English-based words are utilized in Indonesian teenlit novels over 18 years apart. A qualitative descriptive method is used to collect the data using novels with different publication years Seperti Bintang (2005) and Ghosting Writer (2023). The results demonstrated that the use of English words has decreased in the use of nouns by 9.3% verbs that have increased by 1.7% adjectives that have also increased by 4% and the use of adverbs that have increased by 3.6% in the latest novel. Other than that the use of English-based words in both novels is categorized based on how they are formed according to Yule rsquo s theory which includes borrowing clipping derivation and last but not least blending only found in the latest novel.
