Analysis on the effect of variations in shear wall placements on building response due to seismic loads using the response spectrum method in high-rise buildings: case study in postgraduate building A21 State University of Malang / M. Riziek Zulkarnain

Abstrak
Shear walls are vertical structural elements or components that serve as stiffener and typically made of reinforced concrete. The addition of shear walls within a building can enhance the structural rigidity thereby improving the structure s response in mitigating seismic forces. One of the critical aspects to consider regarding the use of shear walls is their placement within the building. By positioning shear walls in strategic and appropriate locations the building structure can possess varying load-bearing capacities. Therefore it rsquo s very essential to determine shear wall placements that have better structural response. This study aims to investigate various placement configurations of shear walls that can be recommended based on the structural response in resisting earthquake loads. The responses examined include base shear displacement story drift and drift ratio. The research flow begins with structural analysis using ETABS software with response spectrum analysis followed by several control checks on the structural response. The results indicate that the placement variations of shear walls influence all the response parameters analyzed. The most recommended model is Model 3 which combines core wall and frame wall configurations. Model 3 is recommended because it demonstrates a better structural response across all control parameters and produces smaller displacement and inter-story drift values compared to other models with reductions of 10.045% in the X direction and 10.830% in the Y direction.
