Abstrak
This study aims to analyze the effect of fertility rate on school enrollment rate (APS) in Malang City in the period 2018-2023. This research is based on the importance of education as a key indicator of human development and the phenomenon of imbalance between population growth due to fertility and formal education participation. Malang City was chosen as the location because in addition to having characteristics as a city of education it also faces complex challenges of urbanization migration and socio-economic inequality. This study uses a quantitative approach using secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics and related agencies. The analysis was conducted through simple linear regression method to test the relationship between fertility rate and APS. The results show that there is a tendency that increasing fertility has a negative impact on school enrollment rates especially at the secondary and tertiary education levels due to the increasing economic burden on households which has an impact on the continuation of children s education. This finding supports demographic transition theory and family resource investment theory which state that families with fewer children tend to have greater capacity to support their children s education. The study suggests the need for periodic evaluation of fertility and education policies especially in areas with high population growth but not yet fully equitable in terms of quality and access to education.
