A comparative study of learning motivation between santri and non-santri students in physical education at MTS Al-ittihad Poncokusumo / Husna Sabila Assyafa

Abstrak
Motivation can be influenced by various elements one of which is student environmental factors. However no research has been found has specifically examined whether there are differences in motivation for learning Physical Education (PE) between students living in pesantren (santri) and those living outside of Pesantren (non-santri). The purpose of this study is to determine whether there are differences in PE learning motivation between santri and non-santri students. Quantitative descriptive research design was used in this study with a comparative approach. The research sample reached 255 consisting of 102 santri students and 153 non-santri students selected using Proportional random sampling technique. Data were collected using a motivation questionnaire and analyzed by the Mann-Whitney U Test to examine the differences. The hypothesis testing results showed that the significance values for four categories of motivation- intrinsic motivation identified regulation introjected regulation and external regulation were less than 0 05 (p lt 0 05) indicating significant differences. However no significant difference was found in the amotivation category as shown by significance value greater than 0 05 (p gt 0 05). This study provides valuable for educators to design learning strategies by considering the differences in motivation of each student.
