Development of a socio-scientific issue-based pocketbook on the topic of microplastics to facilitate students\' science literacy / Lailatul Magfiroh
Abstrak
The low level of students rsquo understanding and skills in scientific literacy at the junior high school level coupled with the limited availability of contextual learning media has become the rationale for developing educational tools that can connect scientific concepts with everyday life situations. This study aims to design develop and test the effectiveness of a pocket book based on Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) on the topic of microplastics with the expectation of enhancing students rsquo scientific literacy skills. The study employs the 4D development model consisting of define design develop and disseminate stages with limited trials conducted in a seventh-grade junior high school class. Validation results show that the pocket book media and the instruments used meet the feasibility criteria. In the effectiveness test there was an improvement in students rsquo scientific literacy based on pretest and posttest results. The average N-Gain score was 56.87% which falls into the moderate category. In conclusion the SSI-based pocket book is effective as a contextual science learning medium and supports the enhancement of junior high school students rsquo scientific literacy.
