Abstrak
Writing a research article is a key requirement for English Language Education students yet many struggle with its demands. This study investigates the challenges faced by 66 EFL undergraduates and graduates from universities in Malang Indonesia using a methodological triangulation design that combines a questionnaire survey with in-depth interviews to validate findings. The questionnaire was administered to all participants followed by interviews with four selected participants for deeper exploration. Results highlight difficulties in academic writing conventions research structure and motivation with psychological barriers like low confidence emerging as recurring themes. The study suggests structured writing support mentorship programs and stress-reduction workshops to help students overcome these obstacles. These insights can guide educators in designing more effective research-writing instruction for EFL learners.
