The esp students’ perceptions and challenges toward the use of digital learning platforms to promote their speaking skill / Novi Dwi Pratista Arifiana
Abstrak
This study aims to analyze the ESP students perceptions and challenges toward the use of digital learning platforms in their speaking class. The research design employed is mix method. The participants are 130 international ESP students in one of private university in Malang. The instrument is a close-ended questionnaire addition with 6 open-ended question that distributed via Google Form. In analyzing the data collected a description statistical analysis was used for the close-ended questions and thematic analysis were used for the open-ended questions. The finding shows that the digital learning platforms which are Zoom Canvas and WhatsApp got positive perceptions from majority of the participants. It has high percentages on language learning potential meaning focus and authenticity of CALL evaluation criteria. WhatsApp got the most perception among them. Moreover the challenges encountered by the participants are about technical issues material problems and interaction problems. To sum up those three digital learning platforms perceived positive perception by the ESP students in their speaking class despite the challenges they faced when using it. This finding could be a consideration for the ESP practitioner and students for choosing the digital learning platform that appropriate for their students. Moreover a variation on instruments and analyzing different skill could gain deeper insight on this issue.
