Understanding nature through william blake\'s \"a poison tree\" / Baharudin Yusuf Achmada
Abstrak
This article offers a new reading of William Blake rsquo s ldquo A Poison Tree rdquo using ecocriticism and Jacques Derrida rsquo s theory of diff eacute rance. The word ldquo I rdquo which is usually interpreted as human is now reinterpreted as a representation of nature. This is because there are a lot of words inside the poem that naturally relates with nature. Derrida rsquo s diff eacute rance destabilizes the meaning of ldquo I rdquo allowing for a nonhuman reading. This reading shows that Blake rsquo s poem can be seen as an early warning about the consequences of ignoring and harming nature.
