Abstrak
Low academic resilience among students from economically disadvantaged families is a serious issue as it directly affects their ability to cope with academic pressures manage failures and sustain motivation to pursue higher levels of education. During adolescence a developmental stage marked by dynamic changes students often lack sufficient psychological resilience to withstand various academic challenges. This situation is further exacerbated by family economic constraints limited environmental support and weak internalization of positive values that could otherwise strengthen their personal resilience. Given the far-reaching consequences of low academic resilience strategic efforts are needed to build students rsquo endurance through approaches that address not only cognitive aspects but also emotional reflective and culturally contextual dimensions. One promising approach to enhancing resilience is poetry therapy which in this study draws upon the values embedded in the poems of D. Zawawi Imron. This research aims to develop a Poetry Therapy model incorporating the values found in D. Zawawi Imron rsquo s poetry to improve the academic resilience of underprivileged students. It assesses theoretical acceptability based on expert evaluations practical acceptability from prospective users and tests the model rsquo s effectiveness in strengthening students rsquo academic resilience within the school setting. The poetry therapy model was developed using a Research and Development (R amp D) framework guided by Borg and Gall rsquo s ten key stages (1) Research and Information Collecting involving initial data gathering through literature review and observation (2) Planning which focuses on designing the product development plan (3) Develop Preliminary Form of Product the drafting of the initial product prototype (4) Preliminary Field Testing small-scale trials to obtain early feedback (5) Main Product Revision revising the product based on initial testing outcomes (6) Main Field Testing broader trials involving a larger sample (7) Operational Product Revision refining the product after main testing (8) Operational Field Testing validating the product in authentic field conditions (9) Final Product Revision making final adjustments to the product and (10) Dissemination and Implementation distributing and applying the product to broader target groups. Through these stages the model rsquo s development is expected to be systematic valid and effective before its wide-scale adoption in counseling services. The study employed the Indonesian version of the ARS-30 which had undergone psychometric adaptation using Rasch analysis to measure academic resilience. The model was operationalized through the Receptive ndash Expressive ndash Symbolic (RES) stages encompassing reading poetry (receptive) writing poetry (expressive) and performing poetry (symbolic). Model validation was obtained through evaluations by counseling/therapy experts poetry experts media experts and prospective users using a model acceptability scale. To assess the model rsquo s effectiveness the study involved 30 students from five schools representing five regions in Surabaya. Effectiveness testing used a pretest-posttest design analyzed through paired sample t-tests. The results revealed that (1) the poetry therapy model incorporating values from D. Zawawi Imron rsquo s poetry to strengthen academic resilience in underprivileged students was deemed theoretically acceptable by counseling/therapy experts poetry experts and media experts (2) it was also considered practically acceptable by prospective users namely school guidance counselors and (3) the effectiveness test showed a significant increase in the academic resilience scores of underprivileged students after participating in the poetry therapy intervention. Based on these findings it is recommended that school guidance and counseling teachers adopt this poetry therapy model as an alternative service that is not only creative but also culturally relevant to students rsquo backgrounds. They are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the implementation guide and supporting media to ensure optimal application of the model. Future researchers are advised to conduct trials with small groups in schools of different characteristics or to expand the scale to various regions to test the model rsquo s generalizability as well as to review the content and methods to suit the specific needs of students in each educational context.
