The use of genai in higher education: lecturers\' perceptions, experiences, and suggestions / Ragil Yulia Ulfa
Abstrak
This study aimed to investigate the use of GenAI in higher education surrounding how lecturers incorporate GenAI within their academic tasks namely teaching preparation research activities and administrative stuff. This study explores how lecturers at a public university in East Java perceived experience and what suggestions they had while incorporating GenAI in their academic and professional works. The study employed the explanatory sequential design consisting of two data collection phases namely quantitative data collection procedures and qualitative data collection. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. Then the quantitative data were analyzed descriptively while thematic analysis was carried out to analyze the qualitative data. The participants of this study were 22 lecturers who voluntarily filled out the questionnaire and 7 lecturers who voluntarily participated in the interviews and currently available. The findings revealed that most lecturers have positive perceptions towards the use of GenAI in assisting them to do their professional and academic tasks. However some of them raised their concerns regarding GenAI rsquo s ability in assisting their work. In light of these findings it was recommended that professional development trainings be conducted to help lecturers better understand the use of GenAI in higher education. Furthermore policy and clear guidelines should be enforced by higher education institutions to prevent the misuse of GenAI among lecturers and students.
