Putri Syerly Margaretha Aprilya. 2025. The Effect of the Show Not Tell Method on the Descriptive Writing Skills of Fourth-Grade Students at Banjaragung 2 State Elementary School. Thesis Elementary School Teacher Education Program Faculty of Education University of Malang. Advisors (I) Dr. Muh Arafik S.Pd M.Pd. (II) Ferril Irham Muzaki S.Pd. M.Pd. Keywords show not tell writing skills descriptive text elementary school This study aims to determine the descriptive text writing skills of fourth-grade students at Banjaragung 2 State Elementary School and to examine the effect of the Show Not Tell method on these skills. The background of this study stems from the low ability of students in writing descriptive texts particularly in describing objects in detail using varied vocabulary and creating systematic text structures. This study employs a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consists of 30 students selected through saturation sampling. Data collection techniques included descriptive text writing tests interviews observations tests and documentation. The research instruments were validated through expert judgment with valid results (value 1) and reliability using Krippendorff s Alpha with a result of 0.879 which is classified as very high. The pretest results showed that the average writing skill score of the students was 51.233 which falls into the low category. After the treatment using the Show Not Tell method the average posttest score increased to 79.633. The results of the normality test using Shapiro-Wilk showed a significance value of 0.010 ( lt 0.05) indicating that the data was not normally distributed. Therefore hypothesis analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a significance value of lt 0.001. This indicates a significant effect of the Show Not Tell method on improving students descriptive writing skills. In addition the N-Gain score of 0.585 indicates an improvement in the moderate category. Thus the Show Not Tell method is effective in improving elementary school students descriptive writing skills particularly in terms of text structure detailed descriptions and appropriate vocabulary usage.
