Oversexualization in character designs of hoyoverse games: a comparative analysis of zenless zone zero, honkai star rail, and genshin impact / Rafi Andika Prasetya
Abstrak
This article investigates the phenomenon of oversexualization in the character designs of the video game Zenless Zone Zero and its comparison with two similar games Honkai Star Rails and Genshin Impact. Through the lens of objectification theory of Fredrickson Roberts and Vokey this study examines the visual construction of both female and male characters. The analysis reveals a pattern of oversexualized female characters being portrayed with exaggerated feminine features and revealing outfits that potentially contribute to gender stereotypes and objectification and the reinforcement of unrealistic beauty ideals. Male characters also underwent similar construction through hyper-masculine ideals that emphasize physical power and dominance.
