Abstrak
Advances in digital technology have brought about cashless payment methods such as E-Wallets and Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) which have the potential to influence impulsive purchasing behavior especially among Generation Z. Based on behavioral finance theory financial decision-making is not always rational because it is influenced by psychological factors such as financial literacy and self-control. This study aims to examine the influence of these factors on the impulsive purchasing behavior of Generation Z in Malang City. The research method used a quantitative approach with data collection through an online questionnaire administered to 237 respondents. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression with SPSS 25 software. The results show that impulsive buying behavior is significantly influenced by the use of BNPL and self-control. The use of BNPL has a significant positive effect indicating that installment facilities encourage impulsive behavior because they provide convenience in shopping without long-term consideration. Self-control also has a significant positive effect indicating that respondents have a low ability to control impulsive urges which in turn reinforces irrational behavior. Conversely the use of e-wallets and financial literacy did not have a significant effect because e-wallets function more as a rational payment tool and financial literacy better describes the rational aspects of decision-making that cannot withstand more dominant psychological influences. These findings emphasize the need for more in-depth financial management education to help individuals deal with psychological triggers resulting from the ease of digital transactions.
