An analysis of film translation (a case study of the film serial \"Sex and the City) / Hilda Cahyani

Abstrak
This article aims at finding out the miscellaneous translation strategies applied by the subtitler and the degree of appropriateness of the translation of the film Sex and the City . The analyses were done qualitatively then it was found out that among eleven strategies seven strategies are found and the four others did not exist. Deal with appropriateness the study verifies that the translation has good quality. The criticism that can be derived is that taming strategy done to make the translation more acceptable for the target language viewers is not really relevant to the idea of pragmatics since it might decrease the sense of the expressions.
