A Studi on the implementation of english speaking program at MAN 3 Malang Dormitpry / Devinta Pustpita Ratri

Abstrak
Speaking skill is one important skill of English learning which needs practice in order to master English well. Creating an English environment is one way of improving English speaking skill. With this phenomenon MAN 3 Malang dormitory has developed an environment which requires the members of MAN 3 Malang dormitory to speak English in dormitory zone. This research aims to study the implementation of English speaking program at MAN 3 Malang dormitory and the description of the program is expected to provide information for English learners on how to improve their English speaking skill by creating real-life communication and also can be useful as information for English learners and English teachers from other schools that perform or have implemented similar program. The subjects of the study were the students of grade XI and XII of MAN 3 Malang dormitory. This study was carried out at MAN 3 Malang dormitory in July 2008. The descriptive qualitative design was used in order to collect information to answer the research problems. The data were obtained through interview questionnaire and field notes. They were then presented descriptively after being classified into related aspects. The finding of the study was that the English speaking program which applies the rules of requiring dormitory students to speak English at the dormitory zone was well implemented since the member of MAN 3 Malang dormitory tried to make a good cooperation in creating an English environment. In implementing English speaking program punishment was given as a consequence to the students who disobey the rules. There were 10 supporting programs which sustained the English speaking program. Those supporting programs aimed to ease students in implementing the English speaking program. As much as 88% of respondents gave positive response toward the implementation of the English speaking program. They realized the English speaking program was important to improve their skill in speaking English. It is suggested to the other schools which have dormitory to implement a similar program which is the English speaking program at MAN 3 Malang dormitory. By implementing English speaking program English learners can do more practice in speaking English. They will be able to speak English better because they have conducive English learning environment in the dormitory as the one implemented at MAN 3 Malang dormitory.
