Advisor Dra.Furaidah M.A. Key words pronunciation multimedia self-instruction an offline web-based material The study is aimed at developing a self-instructed pronunciation multimedia learning resource for the first year students of the English Department of State University of Malang. This learning resource is expected to be able to help students overcome their pronunciation accuracy problems understand the systematic differences between English and Indonesian pronunciation and monitor students own speech. This learning resource is also expected to be able to help them become more aware of the rhythm of English in contrast to that of Indonesian use different stress (strong and weak syllables) appropriately in both words and sentences and make use of transcription in dictionaries. This study followed a prescribed practice of educational research and development suggested by Gall Borg Gall. The R D design were used with some modifications. This study only used some steps considered applicable to the situation and nature of this study. The learning resource was an offline web-based generated pronunciation material. It was in a CD format. The CD format was chosen because it was accessible and economical for the students. In order to produce the right learning resource comments from experts and results from try-out were used for revising the learning resource. The result from the experts judgment indicated that the materials had a low usability due to (1) the unclear display caused by the small size of the display screen and (2) the absence of model of pronunciation. Thus the revision was focused on the improvement of those two things. The results from the try-out showed that according to the students this learning resource was effective and accessible. The use of self-instructed pronunciation multimedia learning resource was useful for the students because it provided supplementary self-instructed pronunciation multimedia learning resource and exposure to pronunciation. These increased exposures to pronunciation also help students overcome their pronunciation accuracy problems. To conclude the developed material provided an opportunity for the students to exercise responsibilities over their own learning.
