The effectiveness of using picture cards on the vocabulary mastery of the second grade students of SMP Sriwedari Malang / Wenita Kusumaningtyas
Abstrak
Abstract This study is a quasi-experimental study aimed to examine whether there is a significant difference in the vocabulary mastery of students between those who are taught using picture cards as a medium in teaching and learning and those who are taught without using them. This study was conducted to the second grade students of SMP Sriwedari of academic year 2008/2009. The samples were the two classes of the second grade consisted of 28 students one class was used as the experimental group and the other one was used as the control group. The instrument used to get the data was the vocabulary test consisting of 30 test items in the form of multiple choice type with four options (15 test items) and matching items type (15 test items). The finding shows that the experimental group got better mean score than the control group. Based on the Independent Samples t Test with the help of the SPSS 14.0 program it was found that the t value was 7.861 at the 0.05 level of significance. It means that there is a significant difference in the vocabulary mastery of the students taught using picture cards and those taught without using picture cards.
