Key words study of utilizing fragment The existence of media in learning process takes role in students responses in accepting materials. One of media which is used most often in learning process of fashion expertise program is fragment. Fragment in this research means a fragment of fashion in sewing competence using machine which is a part/a cut sewing clothes technique. A study about fragment in teaching and learning process sewing competence using machine at SMKN 5 Malang has an objectives that are to describe (1) the completeness of fragment owned (2) factors which underline the utilizing of fragment media (3) the process of fragment utilizing (4) factors which are faced in the utilizing of fragment media (5) the efforts taken in solving obstructions of utilizing of fragment media. The research showed that (1) the number of fragment owned by the school is 25 fragments. The fragment at school can be used easily in supporting learning process. The fragment at school is a finished good which are completed by explanation. (2) Factors which are underline the utilizing of fragment media are teaching variation cheap of existence clarify the materials so that can help students in doing their work fast can activate students so they are more energetic and enthusiastic in doing their work. (3) In the proses of utilizing the fragment is placed in a folder and exhibited so students can use it in turn. Teachers skills are felt less by students. Students are interested in joining learning using fragment the learning method using fragment is demonstration question-answer and assignment. Learning form used is classical and individual. (4) Factors which are faced in using fragment as a hamper factors are teachers skills uninteresting fragment form and unavailability of room and fund while the supporting factors are fragment s color curriculum demand head master support and friends support individual interest and the improvement of teaching quality. (5) The efforts in solving the obstruction of utilizing fragment is making by involving students. The form of fragment is sometimes done by changing or remaking the more interesting one. The teachers usually try to improve their skills and knowledge. The availability of room is devised by rearrange the room which is going to be used while the availability of fund is sometimes devised by using private fund. Based on this study there are suggestions (1) the fragment is should be more than one and in the form of work step and using international language. (2) The utilizing of fragment should be based on the learning objectives and students abilities. (3) The utilizing of fragment is better to use cooperative learning in groups. (4) Teachers are suggested to improve their skills and knowledge in using the media and make teaching plans using the best media in order to avoid learning obstructions. The school should improve its facilities which are needed and the teachers should be able to make an interesting fragment. (5) The school should devise to minimize the obstruction internally and externally as well.
