Grammatical errors in using verbs made by the second year students of SMP 4 Malang in writing of recount and narrative texts / Tri Dessy Afrianti

Abstrak
This study is presented to find some students grammatical errors in writing of recount and narrative texts. The researcher collect data at SMPN 4 Malang for the second year students . The subjects are 40 second year students in 2C in 2008/2009 This study is descriptive qualitative. The researcher tries to find classifies and describes grammatical errors in students writing of recount and narrative texts. The instrument used to collect the data is the prompt of writing assignment. The researcher classifies the grammatical errors based on the surface strategy taxonomy. The errors are in omission addition misformation misordering. Based on the findings the researcher makes conclusion that the highest error both in recount and narrative text made by students is omission of irregular past tense. It is still difficult for students to memorize and differentiate some irregular verbs. The researcher suggests that the teacher should make more exercises in using verb making sentences in order to make students understand the differences of language features that are used both in recount and narrative text with other kinds of text and give more example sentences in irregular and regular verb with other words not only just using went or helped . For the Students they should learn and familiarized themselves with English structures and vocabulary. For the next Researchers they should investigate errors in more specific part of English Structure.
