ABSTRACT Subai Muhammad. 2009. Synthesis and Characterization of Zinc Soap from Palm Oil (Elaeis guinensis) with Zinc Chloride. Skripsi Chemistry FMIPA State University Of Malang. Instructor (1) Dr. Sutrisno M.Si (II) Dra. Dedek Sukarianingsih M.Pd M.Si. Keyword zinc soap palm oil trans-saponification First concept about soap as carboxylic salt from ion of alkali metal has branched out become other soap which not from alkali metal and has characteristic as soon as different function from alkali metal soap. Aluminum soap was success synthetic from fat acid and nabati oil as palm oil castor oil. Oleat zinc soap and stearat zinc success synthetic make use of zinc chloride with oleat acid and stearat acid. So needful research about utilization palm oil as substance substitute fat acid the making of zinc soap. This research as purpose for synthesis zinc soap from palm oil and zinc chloride. This survey research laboratory did with several steps as (1) synthesis of sodium soap by saponificate reaction of palm oil with sodium hydroxide (2) synthesis of zinc soap by trans-saponification reaction of sodium soap with zinc chloride (3) purification of compound synthesis product by washers use water (4) characterization of compound synthesis product include act of determining melted point solubility experiment degradation of zinc soap analysis qualitative ion zink dan ion chloride analysis quantitative zinc metal and sodium metal with AAS (5) identification function cluster compound synthesis product with spectrophotometric infrared. This product research indicate that zinc soap can synthetic from palm oil with zinc chloride by trans-saponification reaction. Zinc soap synthesis product appearance white powder with melted point 83-91oC solubility in benzene (0 020 g/mL) chloroform (0 003g/mL) varnish (0 010 g/mL) and unsoluble in cold water hot water ethanol absolute acetone n-hexane petroleum-ether octanol. Analysis qualitative zinc soap synthesis product contains ion zinc and uncontains ion chloride analysis quantitative with AAS indicate amount zinc 2056 ppm and amount sodium 1 576 ppm as identification with method spectrophotometric infrared contains tape special anion carboxylic.
