Advisor Arif Subiyanto M.A. Key Words Deconstruction Undecidable Meaning Spiderman Green Goblin Nowadays analyzing movie is an important study to do as we can gain a lot of advantages from the movie such as ideas concepts and values of life. The literary criticism no longer limits its study in canonical works such as Dickens novels Shakespeare s dramas or Lord Byron s poems. This idea is also strengthened in Key Concepts in Literary Theory (2002) that a criticism is the act of analyzing and evaluating literary texts films and images cultural forms and phenomena. One and the first most successful film based on a comic book is Spiderman Movie I with the villain named Green Goblin. This movie tells about Spiderman in being a hero by helping others in New York City and defeating Green Goblin. This study focuses on analyzing Green Goblin s characterizations from the perspective of Deconstruction. The character of Green Goblin will be observed by using Propp s Morphology of Folk Tale and later dismantled by deconstructive reading strategy. The analysis of this study has demonstrated that even Spiderman Movie I still uses the idea of traditional plot of folk tale. However it is very worthwhile to show how the deconstructive reading strategy applies because the boundary of being a hero and a villain is obviously exposed. Green Goblin in this particular movie is always considered as a bad guy. Viewers are forced to munch roughly how this idea is given from the director and producer of the movie. Ignoring the motives or causes of being Green Goblin leads viewers to judge that he is a villain in New York City and must be eliminated. Nevertheless by using deconstructive reading strategy the idea of Green Goblin will be dismantled and built again to find some undecidable meanings.
