Abstrak
Keywords learning CTL approach (contextual teaching and learning) manipulative objects trapezoid area Actually the students have difficulties in understanding the trapezoid material. The difficulties in understanding the materia exist because of the unsuitable strategy used by the teacher. The unsuitability in choosing the learning strategy will affect the knowledge process formation of the students. The effort to build the students understanding towards the trapezoid area can be done through the CTL learning approach by using the manipulative materials related to trapezoid. This study aimed to describe the instruction of trapezoid area by using the contextual teaching learning approach through the manipulative material of trapezoid to build the students understanding towards the trapezoid area. The researcher used the qualitative approach in the form of participant class room action research. Based on the process and product assessment in every session it can be known that the instruction conducted based on the contextual teaching and learning approach through the manipulative objects trapezoid can give the more understanding for the students about the trapezoid area. The students responses towards the trapezoid instruction were very positive.
