Abstrak
Most fairy tales and storieso ften put femalec haractersa st he minor oharacters that always need help from male characten. This study is a qualitative study and the data is descriptive since it tries to describeth e femalec haracters p ersonalitiesa nd the techniqueo fcharactersp ortrayal. Thed ataw asc ollectedu sing library researchte chnique.T he fairy tales and storiesa re analyzedu sing the Needt heory personalityp roposedb y Henry AlexanderM urray. Thec ategorieso f needsa re needf or achievementa ffiliation autonomy counteractiond efendanced ominance h armavoidancen urturanc a nd succorance. The resultso f study show that the main femalec haractersin the fairy talesa nd storiesa re active shong courageoui d ominanta nd loyal females.T he main female characteras re active and stong becauseth e needf or achievemenmt otivatest hem. This need is identified from two behavioral activities i.e. when the characters accomplishs omethingd iflicult and when they overcomeo bstacles. Them ain female characteras re courageousfe malesb ecauseo fthe needf or harmavoidanceI.n some casest h e needf or harmavoidancem otivatest hem to be smarti n solving problems. Oneo f the femalec haractersh asl oyalty to a friend that is supportedb y the needf or affiliation.
