The technique of teaching speaking in the third grade at International Laboratory Primary School UM / Ahmad Sayfuddin
Abstrak
Key Words techniques speaking International School UM Technique in teaching English is the ways of presenting the language to the students. Technique in teaching is needed to achieve the teaching-learning purposes because teaching will be successful if the teacher implements the appropriate technique in the class. Teaching speaking to young learners is different from teaching speaking to adult. Because young learners are different from the adults in terms of natural abilities and characteristic therefore teachers should use appropriate techniques that are enjoyable and interesting. This study is intended to describe the techniques used by the teacher to teach speaking in the third grade (International Curriculum Program Class) at International Laboratory Primary School UM that is located on Jln Bogor Malang East Java. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The forms of the data are descriptions of techniques that are used by the teacher to teach speaking. The data were collected by doing observation while the teacher was teaching speaking skills in English class. Besides the researcher also made an interview with the English teacher. After that the researcher prepared the data. Then the researcher analyzed the data integrated using three stages. They are data reduction data display and conclusion drawing and verification. The result of the study shows that the teacher used five techniques to teach speaking .They were classroom language role play simple dialogue drill and speaking in group. The most frequently techniques that the teacher used were classroom language and role play while the most rarely technique she used was drilling. Based on the result of the study there are suggestions for English teachers and further researchers. For English teachers they should try to apply role play and use English as classroom language and for further researchers they are suggested to find out the students perception about the techniques used by the teacher in teaching speaking in English class.
