Abstrak
Keywords Telling Story Skill Serial Picture Media One of the learning outcomes expected in terms language development is children s ability to tell a simple story from a serial picture fluently and in correct order. The background of this study is the inadequate telling story skill of children in group B of PGRI Kindergarten I Kepanjen. The children were shy doubtful and afraid when they had to tell a story in front of their classmates or other people. Therefore the teachers still need to improve children s telling story skill by using direct media or model in the form of pictures that is serial picture. This study aims at describing 1) the use of serial picture media in improving telling story skill 2) the improvement of telling story skill after the application of serial picture media. This study uses the classroom action research design with cycle process the controlled investigation process to find and solve a classroom problem. This data collection is conducted in two cycles with 4 total meetings. The subjects are 20 students of group B PGRI Kindergarten Kepanjen. In this study the researcher collaborate with the teaching assistant as the observer. The instrument used to collect the data are observation sheet and documentation. The findings of the study show that the telling story activity which starts with arranging pictures in order retelling story and telling story using serial picture conducted repeatedly will make studentsunderstand the picture more. Then they will be able to tell the story fluently and in correct order. The use of serial picture brings improvement in children s ability to arrange a story and tell a serial story both individually and in classical way. Based on the findings of the study the suggestions made are as follow. For the teachers they are expected to use serial story media to improve telling story skill for kindergarten students. They are also expected to use various interesting serial stories. For the headmasters they are expected to make a policy regarding the use of serial story for improving children s telling story skill. For future researchers they are expected to use this technique as one of the references in developing children s language development
