Using questioning technique to improve the ability of eight grade students of SMPN 10 Malang in writing recount texts / Aninda Nidhommil Hima
Abstrak
Based on the result of preliminary study the students of class VIII-B had some problems in generating and developing their ideas in making recount texts. To overcome the problems the questioning technique was proposed to be conducted in teaching writing skill. The objective of the study is to improve the ability of students in writing recount texts. In this study the research design used is classroom action research (CAR) that consisted of four steps planning implementing observing and reflecting. The subjects are 43 students of class VIII-B at SMPN 10 Malang in the second semester of 2010/2011 academic year. During the research the researcher together with the assistance of the classroom English teacher designed the lesson plan prepared materials and instruments decided the criteria of success and assessed the students writing. Based on the research findings it proved that questioning technique succeeded in improving the students ability in writing recount paragraphs especially in generating and developing the students ideas. It could be seen from the students writing scores in Cycle 2 that had matched the criteria of success. There were 72% of the students achieving the score above KKM of 70 in the form of content while in the form of organizarion there is 88% of the students who had achieved the score 8805 70. Meanwhile most of the students involved the teaching and learning process well. Considering the result of the study the classroom English teacher of class VIII-B and other English teachers in Junior High School are suggested to implement questioning technique to guide students in writing recount texts. The teachers are also recommended to apply this technique to teach the other kinds of text types. In addition further researchers are suggested to conduct similar studies by using the questioning technique for different text types and involving different subjects.
