Abstrak
ABSTRACT. The research was aimed to improve the skill of writing recount texts of the eighth graders of MTs Satu Atap Umbuldamar through Jigsaw technique. It involved three major stages of teaching and learning English i.e. pre whilst and post activities. These activities were expected to help students organize their ideas better in their paragraphs. The study was classroom action research referring to the model proposed by Kemmis and McTagGart (Koshy 2005). It was intended to give students the most appropriate strategy used to improve their writing skill. The researcher employed four steps in each learning cycle namely planning an action implementing the plan observing the action and reflecting on the results. To decide whether the implementation was successful or not the researcher mapped the results of data analysis onto the criteria of success that is the degree of students involvement during the lesson (including the motivation) the results of students writing drafts and the average score of the writing products. Jigsaw can be useful as a technique to make recount texts since Jigsaw help to recall the stories of life. Jigsaw improved students ability in writing recount texts. Most of the students were active in joining the process of writing. Besides they showed positive responses toward the using of Jigsaw technique. For other researcher it is suggested to conduct action research in different level of graders different skills and different types of genre.
